Re: Old Barnett Crossbow for repair?
Hi Rangi,
Did you find info on your Barnett crossbow? I have an older Barnett wooden stock "wildCat" model crossbow. I think it is the first issue of the WildCat so it may go back to the late 70s. The "wildCat sticker is still present and the sight rail is marked Barnett UK but no serial number or date of manufacture.
Information on these older crossbows seems to be lacking here in theUSA.
There is a site on the internet for old plans or vintage projects and I found a set of plans for a crossbow I built in the 50s as a Highschool project. I used a metal automobile leaf spring and made it 150 pound pull. The trigger set up was made of metal using a roller cam design and the "machining" was all done by hand.
Since you only have the stock and Prod, you may be able to make the trigger mechanism that is shown in the plans. I would be happy to send you a file of the plans if it will help.
the crossbow I built all those years ago looks very much like the Barnett crossbows that they were making in their garage before they built up their business in the 50s.
I'm interested in the history of the Barnett Crossbow Company, it's facinating that the company started out in a UK garage much like the Apple computer did in the US.
I know that the modern Barnett offerings are built in the US and no longer in the UK. I'd like to find information concerning the beginning years of the company up to modern present day.
I don't think that Barnett USA has the time or resources to maintain a history page on their site. I did find one article that shows a photo of the "garage" in the UK that was the beginning. With over a million Crossbows sold by Barnett you would think that there would be more information or examples of all of the models they offered in the earlier years.
If any members of this forum have knowledge or own any older Barnett please post some info. I personally would like to find an owner's manual or copy for my WildCat 150lb. recurve.
Good lick with your project,
JBclay
